Posterior midline cleft of the atlas – a crucial anatomical variation in vertebral fractures

چکیده
The anatomy of the first vertebra, namely atlas, has significant clinical implications. Atlas is situated between occipital bone and second cervical vertebra (axis) one main points head movement. Most congenital anomalies are diagnosed incidentally during imaging investigations can be associated with spine anomalies. neurological symptoms may include weakness in four limbs, acute neurologic deficits such as transient quadriparesis, paraparesis, Lhermitte's sign, chronic neck pain, headache. This anomaly also commonly seen gonadal dysgenesis, Klippel-Feil syndrome, Arnold-Chiari malformations, Turner Down syndrome. Unlike other variations, which arise due to disturbances ossification posterior midline clefts different since they a developmental failure chondrogenesis. We therefore present an anatomical case analysis literature about arch atlas.

Unilateral posterior arch fractures of the atlas.
Unilateral posterior arch fractures of the atlas are discussed with two clinical examples and an experimental study of their mechanism. Laboratory fracturing of posterior arches of atlas specimens with a specially adapted universal testing machine produced nonsimultaneous fractures of the two sides in four of six specimens. In three of these specimens, a complete fracture on one side was tempor...
متن کاملPitfalls in the clinical diagnosis of vertebral fractures: a case series in which posterior midline tenderness was absent.
OBJECTIVE There is widespread belief among doctors that posterior midline tenderness is virtually a prerequisite for spinal fracture in alert, sober patients without any painful distracting injury or neurological deficit. This paper examines and challenges this belief. METHODS AND RESULTS We present three patients in whom significant thoracic and lumbar vertebral fractures were missed, or wer...
متن کاملa variation in the course of the human vertebral artery: anatomical and clinical significance
the macroscopic study of 31 adult cadavers proved a variation to matula and lang's study. in 2 cases (6.4%) a prevertebral segment ran up to cy in one of which (3.2%) the middle cervical ganglion was pierced. this, we believe, is significant not only in diagnosis but also in surgical and endovascular treatment.
متن کاملRare Variation in the Right Vertebral Artery
The variations of vertebral artery are important with regard to their potential clinical impact .The study reports the variation of course of right vertebral artery in male cadaver. The vertebral arteries arise from the superioposterior aspect of the first part of subclavian artery. The vessel takes a vertical course to enter into the transverse foramen of sixth cervical vertebra. Right vertebr...
متن کاملAnatomical Variations of Vertebral Artery
Introduction: Vertebral arteries arise from the root of the neck as the first branches from the superior-posterior aspect of the subclavian arteries. They ascend the neck to enter the cranial cavity and supply blood to the brain. Methods: A total of 20 cadavers (in 10 years) were dissected for the study of variations in the origin of the vertebral artery. This study was conducte...
